2000 AD - the Poem

Last night, Dr Plokta overindulged in a web-based 3-D virtual reality simulation of the forthcoming Millennium Experience, and as he dozed in a VR-crazed slumber, the following vision came to his fevered brain:

In Greenwich town did Mandelson
A plastic pleasure dome decree
Where Thames, the open sewer ran
Through suburbs measureless to man
Down to the rising sea.
So twice five miles of toxic ground
With PVC were girdled round
And there were wondrous multimedia thrills
Which blossomed forth with many an LCD
And here were mainframes ancient as the hills
Their tape drives crusted o'er with verdigris.
But oh! that deep insidious bug which started
To crash all the computers one by one!
A savage fault! As hideous and black-hearted
As e'er within the manuals was charted
By tech support when programs come undone!

-- By E J Plokta (13 ¾)

Mercifully, at this point Dr Plokta was interrupted in capturing his vision by the arrival of an unexpected email from person@porlock.org.uk, and the rest is lost to posterity.
