1998 Arthur C Clarke Award
Dreaming in Smoke by Tricia Sullivan wins the Arthur C Clarke Award
Dreaming in Smoke by Tricia Sullivan, published by Orion, has won the 1998 Arthur C Clarke Award, given annually by a panel of judges for an SF novel published in the previous year. The result was announced this evening at a reception at the Science Museum in London. The award, consisting of £1,000 and a book-end, was presented by David Pringle. The award administrator is Paul Kincaid. Thanks to Simon Bisson for the use of his mobile phone as a hotline to Plokta HQ.

Tricia Sullivan, Chris Priest, Ken MacLeod and Alison Sinclair were present at the ceremony.
The British Science Fiction Association also presented a special award to David Pringle, editor of the British SF magazine Interzone.
The Science Museum is now a partner in the administration of the award, with the Science Fiction Foundation and the British Science Fiction Association. The award was established in 1986 by Sir Arthur C Clarke to encourage quality SF writing, and he remains in close touch with it.
