Corflu Bid for Belfast in 2001
A bid for another UK Corflu, in Belfast in 2001, has been launched
Belfast fandom has launched a bid to hold Corflu, the premier annual fanzine fan convention, in Belfast in 2001. Belfast has historically been one of the centres of world fandom. In the fifties when Irish Fandom was at its height, the exploits of fans such as Walt Willis, Bob Shaw and James White were legendary. There have been few conventions in Northern Ireland to date, and, scandalously, the Eastercon has never crossed the Irish sea.
Corflu had always been held in the USA until February this year, when it successfully jumped across the Atlantic to Leeds. Following the success of the first UK Corflu, it had become aparent that another UK bid would be welcome.
The bid has been put together by the co-editors Gotterdammerung, Mark McCann, Tommy Ferguson and Eugene Doherty. Mark and Tommy will be at Novacon in Birmingham from 13 to 15 November, and will answer questions about the bid. Just don't ask them who's the guest of honour.
