Peggy White Recovering From Surgery
Peggy White is recovering from the removal of a brain tumour
Peggy White had surgery last week in Belfast. Neurosurgeons removed a benign tumor from the surface of her brain, and she's recovering well. She's just moved back to the Coleraine Hospital and expects to return home within a week.
The tumor was a bit larger than a golf ball and was located just behind her right ear. It was discovered when she fell ill after she and James returned from Octocon a few weeks ago, where they both had a splendid time. (James wrote a "Fester on the Fringe" column reporting on the convention that will appear in the special Hyphen publication that Shelby Vick is putting together for next year's Corflu.)
Peggy's recovery prognosis is excellent -- she was walking two days after the surgery, and quickly grew tired of the daily cognitive checks confirming she knows who the prime minister is. Unfortunately, she has been unable to take pain killers, so while she's quickly regaining her strength and sense of humor, she's not particularly comfortable. Cards and letters are most welcome, but James asks that friends not phone. They're both going to have their hands more than a little full for quite some time.
[Editor's note. Those wishing to send cards or letters to Peggy and James may email Geri or me for the postal address, which I'd rather not post on the web.]
